A mother’s job includes just about everything, but that doesn’t mean we know everything. These apps have all the answers.

The Fourteen Apps Moms Need to Find Balance and Keep Killing It

Mom: Uber driver, chef, maid, and someone who can fix everything from a stubbed toe to a broken heart.

Face it, a mother’s job consists of just about everything.  That still doesn’t mean we know everything.

When I’m looking for an answer, what do I do?  That’s right – YouTube and Google. For some of us who are aiming to balance the life of a working mom, it’s true that a little bit of tech help can go a long way.

Going beyond the main ones, I also found a few apps that will keep you informed, organized, and entertained.  I’ve shared a lot of these apps with my friends and they’ve shared some with me. Here are a few that have been a great resource and a bit of fun. Oh, and they are all free:

Alexa

What it does:

Amazon’s Alexa is a wireless speaker, but it will deliver more than just music.

How I use it:

I create my weekly grocery list.  Instead of keeping a list of things I need at the market, I tell Alexa what I need.  I do it throughout the week and it keeps track on the app. When I’m at the market, I just pull up the list via my app on my phone.

It turns out that Alexa’s even changing the real estate world.  In Texas, one housing developer skipped the store and decided to build Alexa into the home itself.  You can read more about it here – Alexa Built into New Model Homes in Texas

Snapchat

What it does:

Allows you to photograph or record snippets of your day to add to your daily story, which then gets shared with friends and family who follow you on the app. What you add to your story disappears in 24 hours.

How I use it:

I’m able to share with my friends and my kids little fun moments through my day.  It’s great to share some laughs with the filters.

What’s more?  These days, everyone’s on snapchat.  This makes it easy for you to check out what your favorite home improvement and DIYer’s are up to outside of their shows and blogs. HGTV made this list of 12 Designers and DIYers You Need to Follow on Snapchat which is a must-read!

Youtube

What It Does:

Serves as a library for all types of videos, including tutorials, music videos, news, and entertainment. You can also use the app to create playlists, share your favorite videos with friends and view what’s trending.

How I use it:

No matter where you are, as long as you have Internet access for the app, you can pull up videos that you and your child can watch.

Guess who has a YouTube channel?  We do!  Our Youtube Channel is the perfect place to see local listings up close from your living room. We also provide helpful tips and views from our favorite Mullica Hill and local spots!

Groupon

What it does:

You can save up 70% on the things you need every day. Find great deals on all the best stuff to eat, see, and do near you.  Buy and save on everything you’re looking for.

How I use it:

I’ve used it for sending flowers and discounts on restaurants.  If I’m out of ideas on where to go, I just check out Groupon for ideas and discounts.

There’s still time to check out Groupon for their Mother’s Day Gift Specials!

Venmo

What it does:

This app allows customers to send and receive money easily using their mobile device. Fees: Users who send money from their Venmo account, a linked bank account, a debit card or a prepaid gift card do not pay any transfer fee.

How I use it:

I use it to payback friends who have bought tickets for events, or paid for dinner.  Easy and much better than writing a check to pay back a friend.

For those moms who are also business women – If you’re a PayPal merchant for your business, you can use Venmo for Merchants

Citymapper

What it does:

This is the ultimate transit app, making cities easier to use!  Real-time fastest route combining bus, subway, train, ferry, taxi, car share, bike share and walk

How I use it:

I used it in London last summer to get around the Tube and to grab an Uber.  I loved it. No more getting lost on vacation.

New to the Philadelphia area?  Citymapper could be the perfect app for you to get started exploring the City of Brotherly love – CityMapper Philadelphia

Yelp

What it does:

This app lets you view and write one review of all types of businesses, from spas, restaurants, and dry cleaners, to museums and popular landmarks.

How I use it:

I use it when traveling to a new city with my family and looking for a kid-friendly place to grab a bite to eat.

Just moved to Mullica Hill and wondering where to eat? Yelp’s Top 10 Restaurants in Harrison Township has got you covered!

Fandango

What it does:

Get the latest movie showtimes, guarantee tickets, browse reviews from Rotten Tomatoes and check out trailers.

How I use it:

The best place to check out the movie trailers and reviews before I spend $14 for a movie.

See what’s playing this Mother’s Day to spend some time with family!

PowerSchool

What it does:

You may know the website, now get to know the app that.  It can upload a student’s grades on your phone! It is available to use wherever I go!

How I use it:

Busting my kids when they don’t do their homework.

Find My Friends

What It Does:

Easily locates friends and family in your contact list on a map when they accept your invitation to share a location. You can also share where you are when someone requests your location. The app also sends alerts to let you know when an individual has arrived at a certain place.

How I use it:

Take the worry when taking my kids to crowded places, since you can use it to spot your kids.

HQ

What it does:

HQ is a live trivia app that gives you the chance to win real cash just for playing trivia.

How I use it:

Something fun to do with my kids at night.

Duolingo

What it does:

What’s Duolingo? Duolingo is a language learning app that offers language courses in many languages. According to their site, Duolingo allows you to “learn a language for free, forever”.

How I use it:

Learning Spanish for my next trip to Mexico.

Calm

What it does:

This app introduces the basics of mindfulness meditation with the “7 Days of Calm,” a guided course featuring 7 sessions of 10 minutes each.

How I use it:

To unplug from the world.

Their Twitter account shares daily suggestions on how to use the app to be Calm!

Headspace

What it does:

Headspace is the simple way to reframe stress. … Relax with guided meditations and mindfulness techniques that bring calm, wellness and balance to your life in just a few minutes a day.

How I use it:

To unplug again.

Their blog constantly shares the importance of slowing down and taking time for yourself.
